In the aftermath of September 11, eight German newspapers printed condolence messages that their readers could cut out, stick to postcards, and mail to the United States Ambassador in Berlin.
Over 30,000 people used these cards in an outpouring of sympathy. The newspapers later produced a 20-page insert listing the names of participants.
You can see more condolence books, children’s drawings, and sympathy cards from across the world in this online collection at the George W. Bush Presidential Library.

i am certain about five things in life:
3. standardized testing
4. sue should read the bell jar
5. everyone should read brideshead revisited
Why does Brideshead Revisited have such a strong hold on our imagination? Evelyn Waugh’s beautiful dialogue plays its part, argues Christopher Hitchens, but the chief source of the novel’s power is its summoning of innocence lost on the fields of Flanders. Never mind that the new film version is a travesty: go back to the book
I’m really not a fan of christopher hitchens but i have to say, his article is a pretty good criticism of the movie
